Hey... it's summer! No really, it is...

Cuckoo! Ah, summer. Those too-short months of the year when we get to wear our lightest, brightest wardrobe, when it's impossible to walk through a park without contemplating a picnic and we feel justified in our penchant for ice cream with every meal. Well, that's what our dictionary says, anyway. If you're lamenting the absence of sunny days lately, we'll bring back the cheer with our 2015 Summer Range of cupcakes.

Summer Range of Cupcakes at Edinburgh BakeryWe spent much of the eighties honing our taste-testing skills to perfection with trips to the corner shop for the sweets of our childhood. The school holidays were long and the Wham bars were many! Ask anyone at Cuckoo's HQ to name their favourite sweet and you're likely to hear a tall tale or two about school friends, sibling rivalry or family traditions. So, in honour of the sweets of our childhoods, our Summer Range is a trip down memory lane with six fun cupcakes inspired by retro sweets and summer holidays!

Curly Caramel Chew CupcakeWe have it covered, from lemon to liquorice, Italian meringue to popping candy, cola bottles to fruit salads. If you know us well, you'll know that our summer cupcakes always go the extra mile to be quirky and ever-so-moreish and this year's are no exception. They're almost too pretty to eat. Almost. Pop along and take a look for yourself.

Lemon Sherbet Fountain CupcakeOur Summer Range is available to buy online for delivery or for collection from Dundas Street or Bruntsfield Place for five weeks, to Sunday 30th August, priced at £2.90 each. Go on, tuck in!

We often have requests from our regulars for tips to make their cakes dazzle without fail. So, for our first Fresh from the Kitchen tip, let's hear it from our fabulous baker, Red:

"If you are short one egg and the shops are closed...
Use half of a large ripe banana (mashed) to replace the egg."
